[Mr. and Mrs. Phylactopoulos and the four students of CYA’s pioneering class]

In 2017, the Greek daily newspaper Kathimerini featured a story on CYA and the background of its founder, Ismene Phylactopoulou, “a 15-year-old girl who crossed the Aegean as a refugee in a small boat 95 years ago, who would become one of Greece’s leading cultural and educational ambassadors.”

There was a great buzz of activity leading up to the final days of fall semester ’17 at CYA. While students were in the midst of finishing their exams, handing in their last papers and readying themselves for the journey home, they managed to leave us with some lovely lasting memories.

Exciting things happening right outside our doorstep!

Famous Greek singer/songwriter Dionysis Savvopoulos headlined an outdoor charity concert “Oloi Mazi Boroume” (All Together we Can) under the moonlight at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), joined by more than 60,000 people. This musical gala was a celebration of solidarity and love promoting a campaign to gather donations of food supplies from the public for those in need.

CYA President, Alexis Phylactopoulos, and administrators Peggy Myresiotou, Popi Triantafyllidi, Katie Sievers, and Alexia Lingaas had the joy of hosting CYA alumni, friends, and partners at a reception on May 31^st. The event took place at the incredible GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live® in conjunction with the NAFSA Annual Conference in Los Angeles. Guests enjoyed Greek food, an open bar, and the lively conversation that comes with great company and many years of shared memories.

A few weeks ago, several CYA students had the opportunity to travel to Delphi and participate in the 2nd annual Delphi Economic Forum. This year’s theme was: Outlook for Greece and the Region vision 2020- 2030.

CYA Spring and Summer semester students will have the privilege of witnessing this monumental exhibition first-hand during their time studying abroad in Athens.
