CYA’s spring break kicked off on April 1st this year, coinciding with both Easter and April Fool’s Day. Students said their goodbyes to one another and boarded planes to meet up with family, friends, boyfriends, and girlfriends. Many students also stuck around Athens to welcome guests from home or prepped for a ferry ride to the surrounding islands blossoming in Spring.
Orthodox Easter will be celebrated this coming Sunday the 8th of April. Orthodox Christians celebrate Holy Week following the forty days of Great Lent, commemorating the events leading up to passion and resurrection of Christ. On display are some of the most significant customs and traditions of Greek culture and Orthodox religion, here are 5 things you can expect to see around Greece before and during Easter time!
This year’s CYA Voula Field School excavation focused on the ruins of a large Agora, and its architectural remains at the site of Aixonidai Halai, one of the ten demes of Attica in the coastal suburb of Voula. CYA students helped uncover more information about the area, and presented the results of their findings at the Annual Voula Dig Conference, which took place at the CYA Academic Centre on the 27th of March, 2018.
